Activity Leader - Summer Day Camps (Seasonal)
Part-Time | Non-Exempt | Seasonal

Training & Programs Start: June 13, 2025

About the Role

As an Activity Leader, you'll play a key role in making summer camp an unforgettable experience for kids. You'll supervise and engage with campers, lead fun activities, and help ensure a safe and inclusive environment. This position is perfect for someone who enjoys working with children, leading recreational activities, and bringing energy and creativity to a team.

You'll work closely with a Youth Programs Supervisor and take daily direction from a Program Leader to facilitate games, arts and crafts, special events, and more.

What You'll Do:

Supervise & Engage: Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants through active supervision, attendance tracking, and headcounts.
Lead Activities: Organize and guide games, songs, arts and crafts, educational activities, and special events.
Support Camp Operations: Set up and clean up activities, assist with snack distribution, and maintain cleanliness of the site.
Encourage Positive Behavior: Use Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies (PBIS) to manage behavior concerns in a supportive way.
Communicate with Parents: Keep parents informed about their child's progress and camp experiences.
Respond to Emergencies: Administer first aid as needed and follow safety protocols.
Follow Program Schedules: Stick to the daily itinerary and assist with any additional tasks as assigned.

What We're Looking For:

Skills & Knowledge:

Basic understanding of child behavior management and positive discipline techniques.
Ability to provide clear instructions and guidance to children.
Basic CPR and first aid knowledge (training available).
Creativity and enthusiasm for leading recreational activities.

Preferred Experience & Training:

High school diploma (or equivalent).
At least one year of experience working with children (such as babysitting, tutoring, or recreation programs).
Or, any combination of training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the job effectively.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to stand and move for 70% of the shift.
Occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs (such as activity materials and supplies).
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in summer conditions.
May need to crouch, kneel, bend, or reach overhead when setting up activities.
Required Certifications (or ability to obtain before starting):
First Aid & CPR Certification
Oregon Food Handler Permit
Recognizing & Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (RRCAN) Certification
Introduction to Childcare Health & Safety (ICCHS) Certification
(A background check and drug screening will be required before employment.)

Work Schedule & Pay

Shift Options:

Monday - Friday | 6:45 AM - 12:30 PM
Monday - Friday | 12:15 PM - 6:00 PM
(Pay is determined based on experience and qualifications, following Oregon Pay Equity laws.)
