The Master Grower will play a crucial role in the operations of the Making A Difference Foundation, overseeing the cultivation and production of high-quality crops for our food programs. This individual will be responsible for developing and implementing growing plans, utilizing best practices in sustainable agriculture, and ensuring that our production meets the nutritional needs of the community we serve.
This is a part-time or full-time position that requires expertise in horticulture, strong leadership skills, and a passion for our mission of combating food insecurity.
Responsibilities include:
- Designing and executing the growing plan for various crops, ensuring optimal yield and quality
- Supervising the planting, maintenance, and harvesting of crops, ensuring adherence to best practices in sustainable agriculture
- Monitoring and managing environmental factors, pest management, and crop health
- Managing and training staff and volunteers involved in the growing operations
- Collaborating with community partners and stakeholders to promote the garden and its produce
- Keeping accurate records of crop production, inputs, and outputs
- Developing and leading educational programs to teach volunteers and the community about sustainable agriculture practices
- Staying current on agricultural trends, innovations, and practices
- Ensuring compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Master Grower or similar role, with a strong understanding of horticulture
- Degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, or a related field preferred
- Deep knowledge of plant biology, pest management, soil health, and best practices in sustainable farming
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and manage a team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical tasks related to gardening
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
