Job Description
Salary: $960 / Week
The Pharmacy Technician performs technical and administrative pharmaceutical work in the preparation and dispensing of drugs and IV supplies. The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting pharmacists in reviewing prescriptions to ensure accuracy. The Pharmacy Technician will collaborate with other healthcare professionals to support the planning, monitoring, reviewing, and evaluating of patient effectiveness and adverse effects. The Pharmacy Technician provides information and advice regarding drug interactions and potential side effects as well as assists in analyzing prescribing trends to monitor patient compliance and to prevent excessive usage or harmful interactions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Prepares, fills, and compounds drugs and IV orders under the supervision of pharmacists and other authorized prescribers.
+ Maintains narcotic inventory and records usage of all controlled substances and pharmaceuticals within the pharmacy.
+ Properly stores biologicals, vaccines, and serums.
+ May assist in providing specialized pharmaceutical services including advising healthcare professionals on issues concerning drug therapy, the inherent toxicity of drugs, and their side effects.
+ Depending upon the assignment, may assist in preparing IV chemotherapy solutions.
+ May supervise or coordinate the activities of other pharmacy technicians who are engaged in the preparation, labeling, and delivery of medications and other pharmaceutical supplies.
+ Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to the dispensing of drugs and controlled substances and the maintenance of required records.
+ When necessary, assists in conducting and evaluating patient medication histories, assesses compliance, and suggests modifications to medication orders to achieve desired outcomes.
+ Instructs patients in the proper use of prescribed drugs; answers patient questions as needed.
+ Assists in individualizing medication regimens using sound principles, accounting for pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetic variations in drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination.
+ Maintains pharmaceutical knowledge by attending educational in-services.
+ Adheres to all Amergis and worksite rules, policies, and procedures.
+ Performs other duties as assigned/necessary.
Minimum Requirements:
+ High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a pharmacy technician training program preferred.
+ Current registration and/or certification as a pharmacy technician in the state of practice required.
+ One (1) year of experience working as a pharmacy technician preferred.
+ Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice.
+ Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
+ Current CPR certification if applicable.
+ TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable.
+ Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
+ Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
+ Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site.
+ Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
+ Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required.
+ Computer proficiency required.
+ Must be at least 18 years of age.
